Musicians & Managers: How to Track Your Radio Airplay Across Africa

GNL Zamba - SongBoost: Track Your Radio Airplay Across Africa

Dropped a new song but don’t know which radio stations are playing it around Africa? Follow these six steps to track your radio airplay on over 100 radio stations in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia, Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa.

Step 1. Install the SongBoost App

Go to Google Play for Android or App Store for iPhone and install the SongBoost app. It’s a small app, about 6MB, that should take very little internet data and just a few minutes to download and install.

Step 2. Sign-in to SongBoost

Once you have the SongBoost app installed, open it. You should see a screen that asks you for your country and phone number. Select your country and enter your number and then click the Proceed button. Make sure that the number you enter is valid and currently switched on. An SMS will be sent to you with a special 4 digit code. Enter that code to verify your number.

Step 3. Personalise Your Profile

Now that you’re in, enter your name, select your profile picture, hit save. This is similar to what you do with most apps you use today. Personalizing the app with your name and picture makes it will be easy to see when you’re logged in.

Step 4. Create Artist

You should now see different tabs in the app. The first one is Airplay, then Artists, Songs, and Team. They are probably empty if this is the first time you’re using SongBoost. Go to the Artist tab and click the New Artist button on Android, or the round + button on iPhones. It’s in the bottom right corner. Enter an artist name, select the artist country, select a picture of the artist to use as the avatar. Hit save once all looks good.

Step 5. Upload Songs

Now you’re ready to upload songs whose airplay you want to track across Africa. Go to the Songs tab, click the New Song button on Android, or the round + button on iPhones. It’s in the bottom right corner. Enter the song name, select the artist, select its genre, and finally select the mp3 file. Hit upload once all looks good. If you have more songs you want to track, repeat this step for the rest of them.

Step 6. Track Airplay

We start tracking your song after you’ve uploaded it to SongBoost. You will however need to make payment in order to see your airplay data in the app. Go to the Songs tab, click on PAY SUBSCRIPTION, select your country and enter your mobile money phone number, choose the period that you want to pay for, and click make payment. Once you receive a prompt on your phone, enter your mobile money PIN to approve the payment. You can choose to track your songs for 1 month or 1 year. We charge $10 for one month. That is about KES 1,000 in Kenya, UGX 35,000 in Uganda, RWF 10,000 in Rwanda, TSH 25,000 in Tanzania, GSH 60 in Ghana, and NGN 4,000 in Nigeria.
